About Our Art Classes
The art school at Zelda's Art World is one of the longest running art instruction programs in Brooklyn, teaching art to children and adults for more than 30 years. Our courses are designed to accommodate artists of every age, from 3 to 103, beginner to advanced.

Art Classes for Kids

Discovery | Ages 3 - 5, 1 hour
Our Pre-School Discovery Class will develop and reinforce skills such as patterning, sorting, recognition of basic geometric shapes and learning about color. Your youngster will paint, glue, sew, string beads and work with clay – and have a great time!


Foundation | Ages 5 - 6, 1 hour 15 minutes
Perfect first art class! Skills presented in a cumulative format using a wide variety of mediums.



Acrylic I Ages 6 - 7, 1 hour 30 minutes
Beginner painting class.




Acrylic II | Ages 7.5 - 12, 1 hour 30 minutes
For beginner and intermediate students. Students will work independently and at their own pace with guidance of instructors.



Acrylic III | Ages 10 +, 1 hour 30 minutes
Through an understanding of value, color and proportion, students will develop the tools needed as well as the confidence to advance as painters.



Drawing I | Ages 8 - 11, 1 hour
Highly structured class where value, composition, perspective, tone and contrast will be taught.



Clay I | Ages 8 - Adult, 1 hour 30 minutes
Introduction to clay. Students will focus on hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab building.


Cartooning | Ages 9 - 12, 1 hour
Students will learn how to draw maximum expression using minimum lines, how to express emotion using line width, and tell a story without words.


Fashion Design | Ages 10+, 1 hour 30 minutes




Photoshop 1 | Ages 10+, 1 hour 30 minutes

Art Classes for Teens and Adults

Oil Painting II & III | Ages 13 +, 1 hr 30 min
Concept, theory and technique using water soluble non-toxic oil paint.



Cartooning II | Ages 13 +, 1 hour
Focused course for aspiring cartoonists, illustrators and comic book artists. Starting with building characters with anatomical structure, students will learn how facial muscles show expression, inking with artists pens, perspective, lettering, comic page layout, coloring and all the tools necessary for graphic storytelling.


Drawing II | Ages 12 +, 1 hour
This observational drawing course uses up to date right brain techniques that help re-wire your brain so you can learn to see like an artist. Make the shift to right brain mode through contour line exercises, negative shape drawing and upside down drawing while using still-life drawing with graphite and charcoal to learn concepts like sighting proportions and angles, value, edge quality, shading techniques like hatching and cross-hatching, perspective and composition. Pre-requisite for Drawing III and Portrait Drawing.


Drawing III | Ages 13 +, 1 hour
This class for intermediate and advanced artists begins with an introduction to color theory, then explores important color media like colored pencils, pastels and watercolor. Students will then use these skills to create their own finished color drawings in their medium of choice. Minimum of one year of Drawing II and instructor recommendation required.


Portrait Drawing | Ages 13 +, 1 hour
From learning the structure of the human head to advances rendering tools and techniques, students will learn to draw recognizable portraits. This course teaches not only how to draw the features of the face but how to see placement and proportion accurately so you can get the likeness of your subject. Using graphite pencils of varying hardness, the subject is rendered from general structure to specific details using techniques that build on right brain techniques and shading and value concepts learned in still life drawing. Minimum of one year of Drawing II required.


Clay II | Ages 10-Adult, 1 hour 30 minutes
Continues the hand building techniques of Clay I but with more intricate forms and work on the wheel.



Photoshop 2 | Ages 10-Adult, 1 hour 30 minutes
